Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Hilarity at The Lost Sailors Pub...

thought that Koch had buried the hatchet, but in light of the recent hostilities, I thought I might provide a little comedic levity to the unfortunate nastiness at our beloved LMA Forum of the past week or so...

I do stick my head in the door over at The Lost Sailors Pub, from time to time. Mostly just to entertain myself when things get boring over here, since it's truly the blind leading the blind over there. Occasionally there are interesting and informative threads, mostly by Light into Ashes who posts the same content here. For the most part, its just Koch and his cronies patting each other on the back, reminiscing about the tremendous shows they all saw in 1995. To be fair, snow_and_rain is a knowledgable head, and shares his ideas there when Koch doesnt suspend his account for disagreeing with him. But there truly is some funny shit going on over there...

I thought I had seen it all when Kochman, while systematically trying to review each and every show from 1972, commented on Brent's prowess on the keyboards in his review of the performance on 9/15/72:

"Brent does some nice raining piano sounds after the final verse in the jammage."

"Jammage" Pretty cool Koch, do I have your permission to use that one?

Another genious, Skobud, put a great deal of time and effort into his thesis about how the Grateful Dead didnt start jamming until October of 1968. Of course everyone took him to task over this, but he doesnt seem smart enough to let this one go. Like a masochist, he keeps adding to this goofy hypothesis. Recently he commented on how the legendary show on 10/12/68 was so hot because Bob Weir wasnt with the band that night:

"The second set jam from 10/12 was unlike anything they had done before that time and it signified a change...I'm saying the attempted firing, this particular show done without Bobby and Pig, led to something new.....Think about it, you go through trying to fire your best friends from the band because they are not good enough, and then you have a show right after without them.....What is going through Jerry and Phil's head at that time??? JUSTIFICATION for the firings, of course...So they take the music in a direction they have not really visited before by doing things they had not done....Mentally freeing them up, without having anything to hold them back....Hence, dare I say, The Birth of the Jam.........."

Keep up the good work Skobud!

Recently, they finished their list of the "64 Greatest Shows of All Time" and they are quite proud of themselves! I almost pissed my self when I saw that two-thirds of the performances they feel are the best of all time, took place after 1979. This was done by voting, but Koch skewed the results by formating the voting into categories so that the shows he attended in 1993-1995 would make it onto the list!

Just the other day they finished a rather large and ambitious project; The Best Ever "Pretend" Show! How cute is that?

Keep up the brilliant work over there guys!

Peace everyone!

OK, not for nothin' buddy, but I haven't seen kochman post one thing about this place, or you, in ages. Are you so starved for attention?

You truly are pathetic cliff, get over yourself, everyone else has. Your obsession with the lost sailor pub, and snooping over there, then re-hashing your own comments from before - is really odd. Take your medicine, you're scaring the straights.

i'll assume that is a rhetorical question??

:)

it is hard for me to say this, but Cliff has now surpassed Tito in attention-mongering (never mind general negativity) - atleast Tito is entertaining (in a perverse way)

Does that mean that Cliff has more cardboard cutouts of his "personal friend" professional athletes in his mom's basement than Tito? I doubt it.

Cliff, is it true that your mom is a web-footed prostitute named Chloe? And, is it true she recently changed her sex so the two of you could have homosexual sex together, instead of heterosexual sex like when you were still straight?

Obviously it was a typo. Lighten the fuck up!

Believe me, I've had my share of problems with kochman -- probably as much as any of you -- but this is some of the most juvenile bullshit that I've seen here in a long time.

Threads like these are the best possible advertisement for heading over to other forums where people actually behave like adults for the most part.

What's the point of all this except to perpetuate bad blood and harsh feelings? What a waste of time.

Forum: GratefulDead Subject: The Secret... and some actual band related trivia questions

Half of us are kidding... the other half get really mad and take this shit serious... the ones that are joking get to laugh while the Oscar the Grouch types get to blow a cerebral blood vessel.

It's really fascinating to watch people hopping sides and changing alliances. I had a friend back in the day that would get all mad when you made fun of him... like really mad.

Guess what everyone did? Made fun of him until his face turned red and he wanted to fist fight. Then we would laugh even harder... the ones that shrugged their shoulders or joked about themselves never really got the riling the sensitive guy got.

So the moral of the story, and something I still am trying to perfect myself, is to not get mad at what anonymous strangers on an unmoderated forum say about you, your mom, your website, your music, your opinions, etc...

But damn it sure is fun to see some people get all pissed off. Ain't it?

So a dead related questions... if I was too young to see the band before the mid 1980's, am I really on a short bus?

Where the grilled cheese sandwiches any better in 72 than 89?

Does missing the first half of the show until you could find cheap tickets and get in qualify as "being there"?

Why do beer and mushrooms and heatwaves always end up with me having a concussion?

Did the band have a special surround speaker setup at the meadowlands during baba oreily, or was it the blotter?

How many shows does one have to go to, to be a real deadhead?

Did you know that deadhead also means a person without a ticket?

What does everyone think about people who listen to studio albums, or better yet, commercial live releases (live without a net, etc)?

I have that double CD and I enjoy the Eyes of the World with Marsalis on the horn during highway travel...

Am I a touchhead if I don't like the song "touch of grey"?

How come no one ever mentions throwing stones? We used to play a cover of it and I always dug it.. is it too "post 68" for serious consideration?

I hate being "picked" on and rarely do I pull anyones chain mostly because I hate when it's done to me

Is it a short bus?
No, the bus came by you got on, it's the same Bus that everyone else is on.

In 72 I wasn't at any shows I was 8 yrs old, but grilled cheese def'n'ly tasted better, especially when made w/ gov't cheese.(dont know the reference google it)

yes you were there you just missed the first set :-(

mushrooms + beer + WATER = no concussion

you can be a Deadhead w/ 0 shows example my 15 yr old daughter.

Deadhead also means a return trip in a semi-tractor w/o a trailer

I love Live w/o a Net ecspecially the Help/Slip/ Frank ,China/ Rider and Eyes

Touchead? Dont like TOG ? WTF

I love Throwin Stones, Bob's best IMHO

Looks like a head, talks like a head not necessarily a head, Love the GD music= Deadhead

again IMHO

Trust me, I knows about gummint cheese, my momma taught me about government cheese, getting sent to the store with food stamps as a child is a great feeling! Nothing like having the stigmata of free lunch tickets at school, tofu for dinner and no idea what soda and candy was. That last part I am grateful for though in all honesty... I just wish I didn't know what meth and ex-henchmen were and life could have been grand for me. Maybe I could have gone to law school or bought a boat, who knows what could have became of me!

I was a fetus in the early 70's, a toddler at best (I was very young as a child). I waited until at least 13 before I dropped acid and hung at in a parking lot (to get more dirty paper to sell to tourists... ah the good old capitalist entrepreneurial days) and by the time I made it inside to see what the old furry freaks were getting all googly about, it was close to coma time.

I just disfigured and condemned a pine tree to a slow, horrible death and am having regrets... I'm over it now.

Anyone ever find my frisbee? It had holes in it like windows and it looked like a UFO, I am sure someone remembers seeing it, it was yellow.

Hey now snow_and_rain my point was where the typo occured. I mean at the pub or here. Well that and why no one else here saw fit to bring it up.

You feel the need to tell me to lighten up, have at it. Nothing heavy was meant by the post. I also check in at LSP from time to time(different SN) post occasionallly in fact.

as for the specific error, i'm not really sure where it happened -- probably was in kochman's september 72 review thread (though i'm sure he corrected it long ago):

I've got to agree with Cliff, the few times I have gone to that site it left me shaking my head.I too saw that list of the best 64 shows ,noticed the absurd amount of post 79' shows and immediately left the site.As for that razor sharp analysis of 10/12/68 being the flashpoint for the start of the jamming GD,what were they doing prior that,3 minute pop ditties.

So that makes you better than anyone who goes there to discuss their favorite band in their own way.

And that makes you better than them because you listen to more pre-79 shows, or know how many times the band played Clementine or some other bullshit stat.

You agree with Cliff... that is to say you get off on belittling people that aren't the same as you.
